AUTOBIOGRAPHY
I have worked with kids for many years, in the Child Care field and also as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach. I have seen many kids with disabilities, or simply underlying behavior problems. The biggest thing I wish to share with the world is ask why, before you judge someone. Before you label a child "bad" or "difficult" ask yourself, why? Why are they behaving this way? He made a kid fall down. Why? Because he was being to rough. Why? Because he was simply trying to give him a hug? Why are his hugs so rough? Because he has sensory issues and doesn't realize that he's hurting others. Why? Because he has Autism.
The rule of thumb is ask 5 whys. If you ask anymore than that, you'll end up asking what came first, the chicken or the egg?
Because I have seen how people with Autism and any other disability or "not normal" are treated I wanted to tell the word about it. I wanted to help be a small voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. So if you would like a look into the mind of someone with Autism/Sensory/Anxiety disabilities, please read my book The Raven Root Chronicles. My Co-Author Nikki Pearson and myself are working on the second book in the series and will be released soon.
I hope you take a moment to try to look at things from the kids point of view, it will help you tremendously in your career and in life. Understanding others helps you understand WHY?
The lack of understanding kids with disabilities is exactly why I wrote Libel, it is a story about a boy with autism who lives in a world where people can control elements. I wanted to give kids who have mental disabilities a fantasy figure they could look up to and relate to. It is a young adult series but you could read it to your class! People have compared this book series to "Harry Potter", "Avatar The Last Air Bender", "Hunger Games", and "Naruto".

The Chronicles of Kakawex
My name is Randie, I am twenty-nine years old. I am engaged to an amazing man named Domenic. I have two children from a previous marriage, one boy and one girl, Mikey and Zoie. Mikey is empathetic, attentive, hands on, constantly going, imaginative ten year old. Zo now seven-- is a independent, sweet, ambitious, laughing, driven, monkey of sneaky mayhem. They are my beginning and end. I would move heaven and earth to give them the childhood and life they deserve. Every day we push ourselves, and each other to be the very best we can be. So far this formula of love, chaos, and laughter (we would be bald, and wearing caffeine patches without the laughter) has resulted in a beautiful disaster, that we cherish and call our lives!
As a child my mother and big sister both ran daycares. Some of my earliest memories were of the teachings of other children, their colors, how to sing "I love you" from that big green, no purple dinosaur. What was his name... Oh yes.. Barney! I would like to think my skills of teaching children began in this early stage of my life. I was quite good at it back then as well. I taught children how to play my games with my rules, and only with the toys I chose for them. Mom called me Angelica. Sense then I have come a long way. Starting with having two children of my own, many of my predetermined "rules" my way or the highway changed very fast. It turns out, children have their own way of doing EVERYTHING. My self growth sort of lead me on my path of child care, not only did I find out what did not work with children. I found out that I enjoyed everything about kids. Not so much that I would have ten of my own but enough that I found a passion in teaching kids, watching them grow. Connecting with their families and together laying the foundation for our future Presidents, Scientists, Americas Number One Best Author. Heck even a Pro Football player or two. Trust me all my kids in my classroom are going to be famous one day. *sigh* The hardest part of being in the wonderful field of child care, is time. You only have a limited amount of time to enjoy these kids. Before poof they are about to age out of your classroom, or even harder age out of your center! NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN! Well, that might be a little dramatic. Although that doesn't lessen the effect it has on you. Little people are amazing, everyday they will teach you something new, if you take the time to listen to them. Yes they will teach you! They teach me, every single day. That is why, this job is so rewarding. It's never ending! |
